The Fox
Ravenscroft's songbooks from 1609-1611. I don't know of any later publications of these except
that the first 8 bars from Tomorrow the Fox appear in the 2nd edition of Playford as the tune for
the dance Trenchmore.
Tomorrow the fox will come to town.
Keep, keep, keep, keep, keep.
Tomorrow the fox will come to town
To keep you all well there.
I must desire you neighbours all,
To holler the fox above them all,
And cry as loud as you can call,
Whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop.
And cry as loud as you can call
To keep them all well there.
He'll steal the henny from the pen.
Keep, keep, keep, keep, keep.
He'll steal the henny from the pen
To keep you all well there.
I must desire you neighbours all,
To holler the fox above them all,
And cry as loud as you can call,
Whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop.
And cry as loud as you can call
To keep them all well there.
He'll steal the lammy from the dam.
Keep, keep, keep, keep, keep.
He'll steal the lammy from the dam
To keep you all well there.
I must desire you neighbours all,
To holler the fox above them all,
And cry as loud as you can call,
Whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop.
And cry as loud as you can call
To keep them all well there.
He'll steal the ducky from the brook.
Keep, keep, keep, keep, keep.
He'll steal the ducky from the brook,
To keep you all well there.
